Dave Cowood arranged our summer cycling holiday to Holland.
Nine of us took the Monday evening ferry to Rotterdam and after a nice meal and a nights rest, we began our journey through the fantastic Dutch cycle paths & trails, (wish we had these in the UK).
It was easy cycling on the flat cycle paths, with a gentle back wind & the sun shining on us, we were soon in need of some refreshment & found a nice little cafe, just to the south of Rhoon.

Coffee stop close to Rhoon.
Oh well, back to the cycling along the Maas river, until we came to Puttershoek, which involved a ferry crossing over to the other side of the Maas.

Ferry crossing 1 – over the Maas.
After a 50 mile ride, we arrived at our first nights accommodation, the StayOK hostel, just to the east of Dortdrecht. The hostel is quite basic, but well worth a visit and we’ll certainly make a note of it for any future trips to Holland.
After a good nights rest, it was back on the tracks again with the wind behind us, to the hotel Campanile, Hertogenbosch. With another 50 miles covered and some refreshment, of us managed to find a TV to watch England beat Holland in the semi-finals of Euro 2024.
It was very quiet in Holland the following morning for some reason !!!
More nice cycling and a stop or two for coffee & lunch and a short ferry crossing or two

Coffee stop.
A further 50 miles and we reached the Van der Valk hotel in Cuijk. After 150 miles in three days we were ready for a rest day and after enjoying an evening meal together we retired to our rooms. When we looked out of the window the following morning, the rain was pouring down, so the rest day was mainly spent around the very nice Van-der-Valk hotel, which did have a gym for anyone wanting more exercise.
We were all hoping that the rain had finished by the folowing day & although it mostly had, there were still a few showers & a head wind to deal with.
We left Cuijk & headed north through Nijmegen and then westerly along the northerly side of the Maas river. Quite hard going at times but eventualy we arrived at the T’Veerhaus hotel, just to the north of Beusichem. An interesting hotel with lots of stairs and passageways. We sat together & had a lovely meal there and a good nights rest.
Into the westerly wind again today, but at least it was dry & sunny.

Heerjansdam – Oude Maas
Nice ride beside the Oude Maas and back to the Stay OK hostel in Dortdrecht, where we stayed on the first night.
After diner, we watched England v Spain Euro match on TV, not a good result for England.
Lovely weather for our final day of cycling from Dortdrecht to Rotterdam, even the wind had died down to a gentle breeze. By 3pm we were close to Europoort & stopped in Rozenburg for lunch & then to the ferry terminal.
Great holiday Dave, Thanks for arranging it.
