Mablethorpe ride, (18 & 19 October)

Another one of David C’s well organised short holidays, to Mablethorpe this time.
After loading our overnight bags into Janet’s car, we set of from the Humber bridge car park, into a strong & gusty south westerly wind. We managed to make reasonable progress through the morning & got to The Swallow Inn around 1.30 for a well deserved coffee & a rest.

Then on to the New Inn, North Thorsby where we had lunch (and another rest from the wind).
The wind seemed to pick up even more for the afternoon ride to Mablethorpe, this may have been due to less hedge rows on this section of the ride.
We had a short section of grass track to ride through into Mablethorpe, where Nige managed to fall off, only his pride hurt. Then along the seafront, with sand being blown onto the road, just as it was beginning to get dark and to our overnight accommodation. We covered 56 miles today.

After a good nights rest & breakfast we left Mablethorpe, with waterproofs at the ready, as the forecast had been for some rain showers today. We gave the grass track a miss today & made good progress with the wind behind us today.

Soon arriving at the Crown & Anchor in Tetney, ahead of schedule.

The puncture that wouldn’t go away !

It seemed a bit early for lunch so a mixture of snacks was ordered & then back on the road again, only to find that Tracey’s bike had a rear wheel puncture.

After a few attempts this was finally repaired & on to the Swallow Inn again for refreshments.
We finally returned to the Humber bridge car park around 5.30, tired but dry, (we never needed the waterproofs after all).

Today’s mileage 58 miles, (giving 114 miles in two days !!).

Great ride David – Thank you.
