Sunday Ride Report 3rd July 2016 – Dalby from Sledmere
Today’s outing was motor assisted with the start from Sledmere, nine of us set off for Dalby Forest under John’s leadership. New rider Sokhun was introduced to the group by Keith, who neglected to warn us she was an ace hill climber.
The ride was wind assisted out and started in warm sunshine, gradually changing to overcast conditions which cooled things down a touch.
A coffee stop at Slingsby Golf club set the riders up for the testing climb out of Ebberston with Sokhun stretching the group out to lead over the top as shown in the adjacent action shot.
After a bit of rough track we entered Dalby Forest through the back door and enjoyed a long cool descent through the forest drive to the Bike Hut cafe in Dalby village for a courtyard lunch once access to sufficient seats had been negotiated.
Our return route took us via Winteringham and over the top to Wolds Way Lavender for a welcome ice-cream and then on to Kirby Grindalthe and back to Sledmere. Tom promptly put the kettle on and made a brew for some of the thirsty riders, a good day out away from our normal roads.
