Yorkshire Cycling Federation – GHS Rides 2013

GHS rides organised by East Yorkshire CTC

Sunday 14th April 2013 – Start 9.00am

GHS (or George Herbert Stancer) was a highly respected figure in cycling after the Second World War up until his death in 1962. At one time George was the editor of Cycling, which is now Cycling Weekly.

Burnby Hall Gardens cafe in Pocklington, George Herbert Stancer's home town

GHS was born in Pocklington and rides are organised throughout Yorkshire to commemorate him and all of these rides, at some time or other, pass through this East Yorkshire market town.

There are three standards: 102 miles in 8.5 hours; a 74 miles in 7.5 hours; and 57 miles in 6.5 hours. They all start at 9 o'clock from Cottingham Methodist Church Hall, Hallgate, Cottingham.

Entries cost £2.50, the closing date is 7th April. Entries will be accepted on the day at £4.00. I would be pleased if you could let me know before the Sunday as check points/cafe have to be booked in advance.

Many thanks to you Sheila – and to everyone else who helped out – for an excellent and well-organised day of rides.

I think the decision to use the hall was a great one. Much appreciated, thanks again – Chris.
