Dutch / Belgian holiday 2026

Up-date (23rd June ) Our holiday is getting closer now, so please check :- 

  1. Passports – they should be valid for at least 6 months, from our return date. (Check passport expiry rules on-line to be safe).
  2. Travel insurance – advisable – (remember to get cover for both the Netherlands & Belgium)
  3. Mobile phone – sometime you need to let the network provider know that you will be travelling abroad.
  4. Euros – probably most cafes in Holland & Belgium will accept card payments, but it’s worth having some Euros, just in case.
  5. EU power adapter & phone charger.

Routes & dates with hotel info :-

Thursday 9th July – From the ferry terminal, east & then south to Bergen Op Zoom. There is a short ferry crossing after about 15 miles.
Appox  48 miles cycling.
Staying at  Fletcher Wellness hotel Stadspark – 4615MA Bergen op Zoom, Netherlands.
Approx 48 miles cycling.
Friday 10th July – From Bergen op Zoom, heading south towards Antwerp into Belgium (30 miles) stop in the centre & then on another 10 miles to Sint Niklaas. about 40 miles altogether.
Staying at Ibis hotel – Hemelaerstraat 2, 9100 Sint-Niklaas, Belgium.
Approx 43 miles cycling.
Sat 11th July-  From BoZ., through Lokeren & into Gent (for another picnic lunch !!).  Then to Aalter.
Hotel Orchidee – Aard 1, Aalter, 9880, Belgium
Approx 40 miles cycling.
Sunday 12th July –  rest day – Suggestion :- the trains from Aalter to Brugge run frequently & it’s about 15 miles to Brugge centre.
Brugge centre is really nice & interesting to see, even if you have already been (especially when you don’t have a cycle to worry about). Canal boat trips are a good way to see the sights.
Mon 13th July – Through Brugge – Cycling this time. Then towards the coast (past the old ferry terminal at Zeebrugge) and on to Knokke Heist, along the coast.

Approx 40 miles cycling.
Tues 14th July – A short ride to Breskens, where we take the ferry to Vlissingen (30 mins). Then along the coast. Three dykes to cycle over in the afternoon. Then to the hotel.

Approx 45 miles cycling.
Wed 15th July – Nice coastal cycling back to the ferry port. A few dykes to cycle over. Hopefully time for a stop in Brielle before we go to the ferry terminal.
Approx 38 miles cycling.
